Clubs and Activities

Student Government


Student Council

Contact:  Mrs. Madison Kasten

Develop attitudes and practices of good citizenships, improve student’s morale, assist in the management expression, direct assemblies and activities, and promote the general welfare. Put on the following Activities:

            Thanksgiving Assembly

            Christmas Assembly

            Salvation Army Angel Tree

            Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Pennies Collection

            Red Cross Blood Drive

            Canfield-Poland Trophy

            Poland Woods Clean-up

            Make donations to charities

            Senior gift to school

Requirements- at lease a 3.0 gpa, and to fill out your nomination sheet to get voted in.


Freshman Class Officers

Contact: Mrs. Nicole Blaze

You are responsible for raising money for class account.

Requirements- All freshman are eligible to participate, must get voted in when voting for student council.


Sophomore Class Officer

Contact: Mrs. Julianna Wellington

You are responsible for raising money for class account.

Requirements- All freshman are eligible to participate, must get voted in when voting for student council.


Junior Class Officer

You work throughout the year to raise money for Prom. Various fund raising activities include: Powder Puff Football Game, Pictures with the Easter Bunny, Candy Selling, etc.

Requirements- There is no GPA requirement. Of course, they must be a member of the Junior Class, and get voted in when voting for student council. When voted in you automatically become a member of the Prom Committee.


Senior Class Officer

We host the Homecoming and Sweethearts Dance, and also a new dance the Sadie Hawkins Dance. You are in charge of caps and gown, senior fees, “graduation”, the senior group picture, and with the senior breakfast.

Requirements- a senior and voted in when voting for student council.




Academic Organizations

Seminarian publishes a school newspaper (at least 5 times a year-usually 8 times).

Requirements- Seventh period daily


Literary Magazine

Contact: Mrs. Smith-- TRSmith@polandschools.org

This group calls for manuscripts, collects and judges all art work and manuscripts, and finally types out layout to produce the final publication of “Gathering Leaves”.

Requirements-Anyone interested can join the staff. Regular Meetings are after school from January to May.


French Club

We arrange to meet about every 6-8 weeks to promotes French-French speaking and culture.

Requirements-French students – either current or completed at lease two years



Spanish Club

Contact: Mrs.Tepper--CTepper@polandschools.org

To further knowledge of Hispanic culture to foster friendships by doing social activates. We go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant; we’re having a hay ride and cookout; we’re making food for the International Extravaganza on Oct. 26th; Christmas Party, etc.

Requirements- Any student currently taking Spanish or former Spanish student. We have at least one activity per month.


National Honor Society

Contact: Mrs. Basista--GBasista@polandschools.org

Maintain gpa of 3.5, uphold qualities of character and leadership; Must abide by rules and by laws as set by NHS Chapter Constitution.

Requirements- 3.5 min cumulative gpa at end of sophomore year determines eligibility. Selection made through assessment of character, leadership and service qualities.

Student Information Form

Pioneer is open to all sophomore, junior, and senior student. Student who are interested must apply for a position on the staff in the spring semester before they wish to be on staff. It is the job of the newly chosen staff to product the following year’s school yearbook. Pioneer is a yearlong activity that involves work form the beginning tot the end of the school year. Being a member of the staff is a very demanding activity with great rewards- most importantly creating memories that everyone will take from high school and have for lifetime!

Requirements- There are basically two requirements for becoming a member of the Pioneer staff-(1) Must have two teacher recommendations ( one of which must be form an English teacher); (2) Must fill out an application selecting position (s) interested in. Once accepted on the staff, one must sell ads to area businesses to help in financing the production of the yearbook, and be self- motivated in completing the pages that they have brings with it a lot of hard work and dedication. It is an enormous responsibility but one that also bring with it a lot happiness and satisfaction once the yearbook is complete.


The Arts

  Poland Players

Poland Players is the drama club at PSHS. We perform to productions per year. The goal of the organization is to give the students the experience a play. Students also learn techniques of stage design and construction including lighting for stage performance.

Requirements-All students are welcome to audition and participate in the Poland Players. Once cast in a part, the students are required to rehearse daily for approximately 2 to 3 hrs. per night for 2 ½ months before opening night. The students who work on crew (set construction) work after school some days, but primarily work on Saturday’s and Sunday’s building/ painting/ decoration the sets fro the 4 to 5 weeks prior to the production weekend.


Art Club

Art Club meets once a month, usually at school. Activities can be anything from the dye to bowling.

Requirements-Students must pay $5.00 fee to be a member of art club.


Speech Team


Graphic-Web Design Club

Contact: Mrs. Paine--DPaine@polandschools.org

The club fosters an interest in computers directed toward the use of graphics and web pages.  The members offer assistance to each other and staff members in the development of web pages.  They provide training to members in the use of various software packages.


Service Organizations

We help with Open House (serving refreshments), we make fruit baskets for Thanksgiving to give to area churches and to the needy people , volunteer at nursing homes, sock and mitten tree at Christmas, teach lessons at Dobbins elementary school, makes Easter baskets for children at Todd’s Hospital, volunteer for Cancer Society. In March compete at the Regional Valley –competition for state and nation level. In April -state convention in Columbus . In July- national convention for all state winners and any affiliated member.

Requirements- To have taken a course in a Family and Consumer Science class at P.S.H.S.
