A Message From
Your Principal...
Our third graders
did an outstanding job this afternoon as a large
crowd of family and friends enjoyed their
performance at the annual Wax Museum. All the hard
work paid off as we heard the life stories of famous
people. Great job students, teachers and families!
As we look forward
to the weekend I would like to extend a very Happy
Mother's Day greeting to all the moms in our Dobbins
family. I hope it is a relaxing day for all.
The month of May
is full of fun and special activities for each grade
level. Our 3rd graders are preparing for this week's
Annual Wax Museum. This is an awesome event and we
look forward to each of our students taking on the
role of a famous person. Good luck to our students!
Congratulations
were announced at an assembly yesterday as Jackie
Grisdale received the State, National, and Grand
National prize awards for the Zaner Bloser
Handwriting Contest. Her beautiful writing sample is
a tribute to Jackie and her teachers.
Pick-up for the
PTO Flowers fundraiser is happening today on the
front porch of our school. The funds earned are
going towards the upcoming playground improvements.
Finally, thank you
to our PTO volunteers who hosted a delicious
luncheon today as part of Staff Appreciation Week.
We all appreciate the kind support of our PTO and
Dobbins families.
The last day of
April... Tonight we will hold a special event for
4th graders at the Butler Art Museum. The students
will culminate their year long classes and show
their individual art work as well as serve as
docents through the museum. This will be from 6-7:30
for 4th graders and their parents. Can't wait to see
our student work.
The annual PTO
Volunteer Brunch is tomorrow at 9:30am at
Wittenaur's. It will be nice to see the many
volunteers who have worked on school projects
throughout this year. My thanks to all who have
given a helping hand to support our school.
Today is Earth
Day! Our students were reminded of the
motivating Green Team presentations held this month
to encourage the 3 R's-Reduce-Reuse-and Recycle.
Our first day of
testing is complete with third graders finishing up
the reading assessment today. Good Luck to our
fourth graders who will be taking reading tomorrow.
Remember to send
in your orders for the Butter Braids fundraiser
tomorrow. We hope this fundraiser will help add to
the funds we need for playground improvements.
April is also
Poetry Month and our first graders are getting ready
for their Friday Poetry in a Pocket event.
They will be sharing some of their poems this week
during morning announcements.
Just a reminder
that next week is Ohio Achievement Testing Week. Our
third graders will take the Reading test on Monday
and the Math test on Wednesday. Our fourth graders
will take the Reading test on Tuesday and the Math
test on Thursday. We cheer them on as they do their
best on the test!!
Our four day

Wednesday with appointments scheduled throughout the

kindergarten students and their families to our
schools!
Please keep in
mind that our Butter Braids fundraiser orders are
due April 23rd. We are hoping for a successful
outcome to the final fundraisers that will benefit
our playground improvements. The Butter Braids
pasteries and Auntie Anne's pretzels are delicious.
Report cards went
home today. Check your child's bookbag when he/she
gets home.
Just a reminder
that Monday, April 15th we will not have school.
This is a Waiver Day for the Poland Schools. All
employees will be a part of safety training at our
high school.
Kindergarten
Screening is set for Tuesday, Apr. 16 and Wednesday,
Apr. 17. All incoming students to our district
should have a scheduled appointment on one of the
two days next week.
The Green team was
here today for our annual Earth Day celebration day.
Each grade level had the opportunity to take part in
a special presentation/event with Mrs. Peg Flynn
educator from the Green Team.
We appreciate your
support with the Butter Braids/Auntie Ann's Pretzel
Fundraiser. This will benefit our future
improvements to the school playground!
Happy Birthday to
our April Birthday Bunch which met today during our
lunch periods.
Welcome Back! I
hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and fun-filled
Spring Break!
This week we will
have our annual Green Team presentations in
celebration of Earth Day. Our PTO meeting will be as
scheduled on Wednesday at 9:30am in our school
library. Look for report cards to go home this
Friday.
The annual
kindergarten Easter Egg Hunt was a success with all
of our students and families enjoying a lively hunt
for candy-filled eggs. Thank you to our teachers and
parents for organizing this fun event. In spite of
the cool morning weather the children had lots of
fun! They were thrilled to see the Easter Bunny on
the playground.
As we head into
the Spring Break: March 29th-April 7th I wish all of
our students and families a very Happy Easter and a
relaxing break. See you all on April 8th.
This is surely a
shortened week for us thanks to the weather
conditions yesterday. Rescheduled from yesterday: We
will be having the Gorant's Candy pick-up on
Wednesday from 3:30-5pm on our school stage. In
addition, Market Day orders can be picked up on
Thursday from 4-5pm.
PSHS students will
be here for a special story and craft lesson on
Wednesday with our 1st and 2nd grade classes. The
annual Easter Egg Hunt will be on Thursday at
10:30am for our kindergarten classes. Remember to
dress for outdoors on that day.
There will not be
classes this Friday as our Spring Break begins
Friday, March 29th and runs through April 7th!
I can't believe we
are at the end of this week. Things get busier
everyday.
We ended the week
with a wonderful surprise for our school! This year
we have a State Winner in the Fire Safety Poster
Contest. Fire Prevention Officer Bill O'Hara, tells
me this is the first state winner for Poland.
Congratulations to 4th grader Anthony Koulianos
whose awesome poster made it to the top! He was a
local winner with 3rd grader Wyatt Bobbey. Both boys
were congratulated at today's assembly and Anthony
received special recognition from the State Fire
Marshall's Office.
PTO Gorant's Candy
fundraiser was delivered today. Some packages were
OK to send home in bookbags. All others can be
picked up on Monday from 4-5pm on our school stage.
Thank you to all
of the 4th grade parents and PTO volunteers who were
here yesterday for the Annual 4th grade Pioneer Day!
It was such fun for our students as they dressed as
pioneers and took part in a full day of activities
from bread making, square dancing, cat's cradle, tin
punching, and more... Arms Museum was also here to
share a little about the past including: clothing,
toys, and artifacts.
With one week left
before Spring Break I hope you enjoy this weekend of
preparations. If we could only get the weather to
cooperate...

This week has been
so busy for all of us with the March PTO meeting,
Birthday Bunch, special speakers, food collections,
and more... Today alone we hosted our annual
Nutrition Event for 3rd and 4th graders planned by
our school nurse, Mrs. Fedor and Food Services
Director, Mrs. Dorbish. The students moved from
station to station learning the importance of good
food choices and exercise in their daily lives. K-1
and 2 students had technology sessions with Mrs.
Zedaker, and tonight we look forward to Family Math
Night for our 2nd and 4th graders. Our K-4 classes
continue to meet with Junior Achievement volunteers
for the special program planned at each grade level.
This program supports knowledge of economic,
community, business and career issues for our
students. We appreciate the support for this
program.
Tomorrow ends our
Harvest For Hunger collection. We are hoping each
student can make one final donation for our morning
collection. The Second Harvest Food Bank will be
here to pick up our donations tomorrow. I asked our
students to talk about your food donations at the
dinner table tonight when you are all enjoying a
meal together. Your donations help families less
fortunate than we are in our surrounding counties.
We also have plans
for pictures with the Easter Bunny for K-1-2
students tomorrow. Students who brought a completed
form to school will be smiling with the bunny
tomorrow morning.
Our kindergarten
students will take part in an afternoon with
Armstrong as they tape their storytime and craft
lesson in our Activity Room. This will air at some
point in the near future.
WOW! The Earth
Dome was amazing! This giant inflatable filled the

drills in an effort to be well prepared and safe.
We have all been
looking forward to the upcoming Earth Dome Assembly
and tomorrow is the big day! This giant inflatable
will fill our All purpose room and be the setting
for a day long series of grade level science

Our PE teachers
remind students that all Jump Rope For Heart
collections are due this Friday, March 8th.
Harvest For Hunger
Collection continues the remainder of this week and
through next week. Our donations will be picked up
around noon on Friday March 15th. We are doing a
great job sharing our food donations each morning.
Many boxes have been packed already. Thank you to
our PTO volunteers who help with this collection
each morning.
Our Read Across
America Day Celebration was a success with wonderful
participation in our school-wide Pajama Day!!! The
children enjoyed this extra treat and I thank our
parents for your donations to wear pj's today. The
money collected will go towards the playground
improvements coming up soon. This day is special as
it is recognized nation wide as a day to promote
literacy. I hope you will take time this weekend to
read with your child and continue this support.
We will hold a 2
week food drive beginning Monday with Macaroni Day.
Food items will be collected each morning for the
Harvest For Hunger Drive. All items will be packed a
picked up by the Second Harvest Food Bank. These
donations are used to help families in our
surrounding counties. Let's teach our children to
help others and share when possible!
Friday we will
celebrate Dr. Seuss's Read Across America Day! We
will get comfy and spend time reading our favorite
books. Students may pay $1.00 and wear PJ's (top
with sleeves and long pant bottoms or just one part
and a shirt or pants of your choice.) This mini
fundraiser will benefit our efforts to make
additional playground improvements this summer. We
appreciate the support. Every dollar counts.
Many thanks to all
of the PTO volunteers who came together to make
Father/Son Night such a huge success. The committee
chair, Mrs. Bobbey and the team did a great job
planning this creative event for the guys!! The race
car theme was a hit with everyone enjoying the
centers set up throughout the building.
Invitations went
out to second and fourth grade students and parents
to prepare for the upcoming Annual Family Math Night
on March 14th. Please send your response to school
so we can continue the plans. Hope to see all
students attend this year's event.
Happy Valentine's
Day!! Our students are very excited about sharing
their valentines during our afternoon classroom
parties. Their decorated boxes and bags this year
are so unique. Thank you to our PTO for providing
the treat for today! Ice cream is a favorite.
A reminder that we
will not be in school Friday, Feb. 15th due to
tonight's evening conferences (3:30-9:30pm) and
Monday, Feb. 18th in observance of President's Day.
Hope you enjoy the
long weekend!
We are all looking
forward to this week's Valentine's Day parties on
Thursday! PTO will provide an ice cream treat for
all students that afternoon. Our students are
anxious to share a valentine card with each other
during their parties.
Thursday evening
from 3:30-9:30pm we will hold our Conference Night.
If you have not been scheduled, please feel free to
contact your child's teacher if you would like a
phone or in person conference during this time.
It was nice to
meet with our February Birthday Bunch this week. The
students love to come to my office for a visit
during their birthday month. Picture Day went as
planned yesterday with lots of smiles. We expect
pictures to be returned to us before spring break.
In our efforts to
promote safety in our school we held a second
Lockdown Drill today. Our school did very well in
showing procedures followed in every classroom with
a quick response to the drill. Our Township police
supported our drill by attending and providing good
feedback. I am very pleased with our staff and
students as we practice the various drills needed to
be prepared in an emergency.
I'm sure you will
be spending some time this weekend preparing
valentines for classmates. We will have our annual
Valentine's Day parties on Thursday, Feb. 14th.
Students may bring valentines to share in class. PTO

great time to pick up a Valentine's Day or Easter

Enjoy the rest of
this wintry day and have a super weekend!
It's good to be
back in school! After a couple of extra days off due

this grading period is Friday. This means report

This week ended
with a wonderful puppet assembly for our students.
Sadecky Puppets spent the afternoon performing for
all K-4 students. Their presentation "New Friends"
was both educational and enjoyable. At the end of
the assembly, the performers took the time to show
the students how the puppets are handled. The
children really liked this! Thank you to our PTO for
funding this program. It was one of 4 programs we
will have throughout the year.
Reminder to first

Recently,
Armstrong Channel 20 had the opportunity to film a
Kids Corner episode with our second grade classes.
This episode is currently airing at these times
through January 13th:
Monday 12pm
and 5pm, Tuesday 12pm and 5:30pm,
Wednesday 12pm and 5pm, Thursday 12pm and
5:30pm, Friday 12pm and 5pm, Sat. and
Sunday 10:30am and 5pm. Try to catch an
episode of Mrs. DiVito and Miss Mateja's classes.
This month's
character trait is Determination-deciding it's
worth it to finish what you start. I reminded
the students of the determination of teacher, Annie
Sullivan, who worked diligently to see that Helen
Keller could learn to communicate. Because of the
determination of this individual, Annie Sullivan
learned how to talk and write and communicate
brilliantly. Discuss the importance of determination
with your child throughout the month. It is through
determination that we reach our goals.
With snowy and
cold days ahead just remember to have students dress
for the chance of an outdoor recess (hats, gloves,
scarves,...). If conditions permit we will go out at
recess. Students need snow boots for moving through
snowy areas.
Have a nice
weekend-perfect chance to head outside to build a
snowman!
Welcome Back and
Happy New Year to all!!! I hope each of our
families enjoyed a peaceful and memorable Holiday
Season together. We are starting off 2013 very

sometime in the near future.

our classroom art lessons. We thank the many
volunteers from The Butler who meet with our
students throughout the year.
Tomorrow morning

fundraising raffle will benefit our playground
improvements. Good Luck to all who are holding a
ticket.
Finally to all of
our families please be reassured that we are doing
everything possible to continue to keep safety as a
top priority at Dobbins. I ask that everyone
who enters our building please stop in the school
office. Working together we will make a difference
for the safety of our students and staff.

efforts at work for our children. The students were
entertained while reviewing math concepts.

all of our donations to be picked up by Children's
Services on Wednesday. Thank you all for thinking of
other children as you do your holiday shopping.
The December
Birthday Bunch was full of excitement as these
students met on Wednesday during lunch periods.
First grade enjoyed a field trip this morning and
kindergarten was treated to a pizza party as the
high selling class in the PTO Fundraiser this

hallways with awesome Holiday art projects that are
certain to get you in the spirit of the season!
Reminder: Last
chance to get your raffle tickets for the Dr. Dre
Beats tomorrow morning! PTO will raffle this great
gift next week.
Our week is off to
a great start. We were pleased to have Peg Flynn
from the Green Team here with us all day on Monday.
She set up an art lesson for each class in the
Activity Room. Our students had the chance to make
an ornament from recycled materials. My office tree
is accented with a few of these unique ornaments
from some of my students. They look great! Thank you
to Mrs. Flynn for this special activity with our
classes.

for a little gift for family members and friends.
This is a nice project and is very appreciated by
our students and families.
This morning's
Breakfast with the Principal was a special treat for
the 3 top sellers of the PTO Yankee Candle
Fundraiser. Students were treated to a very nice
breakfast at Friendly's. They really enjoyed this
event!
The generosity of
our families can surely be seen by the decorated
trees on the stage. They are filling with hats,
scarves, mittens, socks, and many new coats have
also been donated. Thank you all for this act of
compassion during this season of giving. We teach
our students to think of others!
PTO will be
selling tickets each morning next week for the Dr.
Dre Beats raffle. These earnings will be put towards
the next phase of Playground Improvements. Tickets
are $5.00. The Beats are a $200 value.
We kicked-off the
new month today with a new character
trait-Compassion-caring enough to do something about
someone else's needs. Our Giving Tree project is a
perfect way to give a little this season. All
donations are to be picked up later this month.
Helping other families in our area makes this
collection so worthwhile!
The busy week
continues with the Holiday Shop in full swing
beginning tomorrow. Please have your child prepared

Just a reminder
that tonight is Conference Night 3:30-9:30. We
welcome our families to school for their scheduled
conference. We will not have school on Nov. 21st,
22nd, 23rd, and 26th.
Wishing everyone a
very Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy this long break
together and take the time to talk about all the
things we should be grateful for in our lives. We
have many blessings.
Symphony Director,
Randall Craig Fleischer was at Dobbins today
presenting to our fourth grade students. The
students loved his lively lesson! You can just feel
his musical talent and special gifts as you enter
one of his sessions. We are so fortunate to have him
with our students.

gathered this week for a session in the Activity
Room. The students love this program!
Tomorrow we
welcome our families to school for Visitation Day.
Each grade level is scheduled for a special time.
Hope to see many of you tomorrow!
This morning we
honored 10 veteran's with a whole school morning
assembly in our All purpose Room. Our kindergarten,
first, and third grade students performed songs and
Reader's Theater for this special assembly.
Veteran's were greeted by our students and enjoyed
refreshments in our school library. Following the
assembly they visited our classrooms to share
stories and thoughts from a veteran. Our respect and
gratitude goes out to all who served our country and
fought for the freedom we enjoy in the USA.
Armstrong Channel
20 Programming spent time taping a storytime session
with our second grade students this afternoon. In
addition they presented a craft lesson which our
students all enjoyed. We look for this to air
sometime in the near future. We will let you know.
Nov. 11th is
Veteran's Day! Our sincere thanks and appreciation
goes out to all men and women who have served
our country. While Veteran's Day falls on Sunday,
our school will observe this special day on Monday
with a morning assembly. We all plan to wear red,
white, and blue to show our patriotism and support
for our veterans. Our special guests will include
family and friends of Dobbins.
The weekend ahead
looks beautiful. Get out for one more chance to rake
up the yards before we start to see that white stuff
falling from the sky.
Congrats to the 47
students who qualified for the Limo Lunch. The trip
to Olive Garden today was fantastic! The children
absolutely loved the cool Limo Bus. Thank you to the
PTO volunteers for the Magazine Committee who do a
great job with this effort. Our school is so
fortunate to have the help of a wonderful PTO.
Congrats also to
Lily who received Honorable Mention in the 4th grade
for her poster in the Juvenile Justice Annual Poster
Contest. She did a beautiful job and was recognized
this morning with other students throughout the
county.
Tomorrow is blue
and white day to support our Bulldogs!
After some days at
home sick with a nasty flu I am happy to be back to
school. I return full of smiles and gratitude with
the wonderful news of the school levy passage in our
community. Thank you to the many families who
supported the efforts of the levy campaign to get
the message out to our neighbors and friends. On
behalf of the staff and students at Dobbins I thank
you for your support of this levy. The partnership
between our community and schools is so vital in
maintaining the excellence for our children.
Yes for Poland
Schools!!!
Happy Halloween!
Our parade went very well this afternoon with
students enjoying the PTO treat that followed. Thank
you to all who attended our indoor parade in the
All-purpose Room. We had a large crowd! Each class
had the chance to be photographed together. The
children were so excited to be in costume.
Hope all of our
families enjoy the evening hours of
trick-or-treating tonight! Let's hope the weather
holds out.
Looking forward to
our Halloween Parade tomorrow! Students should bring
their costumes to school in the morning. They will
dress after recess. We will parade across the stage
by 1:20. Please plan to park in the PSHS Stadium Lot
if our lot is full. Cars cannot remain in the front
due to buses.
PTO will provide
the treat for the party. We appreciate your
generosity, but ask that you not send any additional
treats to class. Our students will have plenty to
enjoy before a long night of Trick-or-Treating!
With Halloween
just two days away and the weather conditions
threatening us with winds and rain it is likely that
our parade will be indoors. After beginning our
parade through the classrooms as we usually do, we
will plan to parade across the stage by 1:20. Each
class will stop for a photo opportunity and then
continue through the school. The students will
finish off with a party in their classrooms. I ask
that you park across the street at the Stadium
Parking Lot if our lot is full. The front of the
school must remain open for buses. Rain or shine
Halloween will be full of fun for the children!
This week's visit
from author, Dandi Daley Mackall was so enjoyable
for our students and staff. Her inspiring stories
and tales of how she develops her books was very
informative. Many thanks to our PTO for funding this
special visit. In addition, Dandi donated a portion
of the money from book sales back to our school
library!
When planning for
next week's Halloween Parade on Wednesday, Oct.
31st-choose costumes appropriate for the school
setting. Watch the length of costumes and remember
not to include any look alike weapons with your
costume. This should be a fun celebration for our
students. Just hope the weather holds out for a
brief outdoor parade that day. PTO will provide the
treat for our students following the parade.
Send any last
minute pie orders to school by tomorrow!
Tomorrow is the
big day! Award winning author Dandi Daley Mackall
will visit Dobbins for the day. She will start with
a whole group assembly and break up into three
smaller sessions with our students. This will be
followed by autographing. We look forward to meeting
her!
Symphony Director,
Randall Craig Fleischer was in the building this
afternoon for a presentation to our fourth grade
classes. He is amazing and such an inspiration to
our students!
Congrats to one of
our fourth grade students who won an Honorable
Mention in the Juvenile Court poster contest. Lily
will be recognized at a breakfast on November 8th.
Great job Lily!!
Our second grade
teachers, students, and parent volunteers held a
2-day successful Lemonade Sale this week. Thank you
to all who took part and made donations to this
service project. The Rescue Mission will benefit
from the work of our classes.
First graders had
a great time this afternoon as the held their annual
pizza making day. They all enjoyed a special
homemade snack with the help of their teachers and
parent volunteers.
Fourth grade
classes had the opportunity to work on their first
ceramic project of the year. Their morning art
activity this week was a connection to some of the
themes in class.
Another busy week
comes to an end. Hope you all have a fun weekend! I
am heading to a special concert on Sunday night-Patrizio
in concert!! I will be singing on Monday.
We welcome The
Symphony back to Dobbins for this school year thanks
to the generosity of The Syak Foundation and Mr. and
Mrs. Jeff Simon. The musicians are meeting with all
classes this week including Mr. Randall Craig
Fleischer, Youngstown Symphony Director, who will be
presenting to the fourth grade classes this year.
Our students gain music appreciation from each
visit!
Second graders
will be holding their annual Lemonade and Cookie
Sale on Wednesday and Friday of this week. Bring
your quarters to buy a special treat during the
lunch periods!
Today was a
perfect day for our first graders' field trip and
annual planting project! Thanks to a donation of
bulbs from the Fellows Riverside Garden and
beautiful mums from Mrs. Masucci, our students spent
time this afternoon working to beautify our school
grounds. Thank you to the many parent volunteers who
helped our children with this event, especially Mrs.
Wern for storing the bulbs for us throughout the
summer. We all look forward to the spring when we
see the fruits of today's labor.
Thank you to our
local Fire Dept. for conducting assemblies for our
first and second graders this week. They especially
enjoyed seeing the fire truck up close!
Happy Birthday to
our students born in October. We celebrated the
Birthday Bunch this week. I was happy to greet each
student in my office on Wednesday!
This is a perfect
time to plan ahead and support our PTO Pie
Fundraiser. We hope to see orders coming in next
week.
A reminder that
tomorrow is NEOEA Day which means no school! Have a
nice long weekend and enjoy the brilliant colors of
the season!
Yesterday we
kicked-off our PTO Pie Fundraiser. With the holidays
right around the corner now is a great time to order
the delicious Market Day pies for your special
events and help out our school PTO. Remember these
earnings will help fund many of the annual
activities for our children. Pumpkin pie sounds good
to me!!
Our students have
been enjoying a visit from the Poland Fire Dept. -
Fire truck Bookmobile which is set up in our school
library. Classes have the chance to read in the
truck during their library times for two weeks. We
also look forward to the Gr. 1 & 2 assemblies this
week focusing on fire safety. We all
appreciate the support of our Poland Fire
Department.
Reminder that we
will not be in school this Friday, Oct. 12th for
NEOEA Day.
We are sporting
our blue and white today for Spirit Day as we show
support for the Bulldogs. Hoping for a win tonight!
Go Bulldogs!
The PTO Fall Mum
Sale was a success. The earnings will be put towards
the outdoor playground projects. Thank you to our
volunteers and to all of our families who
participated. The mums were so beautiful all
assembled outside our school yesterday.
Keep up the great
job collecting Box Tops for our school. We are off
to a great start. Every little label counts!
Thank you to all
who could attend our PTO meeting yesterday morning.
We appreciate the visit from Mr. Dailey, Interim
Superintendent, who talked about the importance of
the upcoming school levy.
All 3rd graders
have completed the Ohio Reading Achievement
Assessment this week. We always feel good when these
tests are packed and sent off for scoring. Our
students had a positive attitude as they finished up
this assessment. Good job to our 3rd grade boys and
girls!
The Poland
McKinley School PTO created a Math Enrichment Family
Resource Book that provides math resources for
families to use at home. Although the book was
designed for families of fifth and sixth grade
students, most of the resources can be used with
younger and older students. If interested you can
find this resource at https://sites.google.com/site/polandbulldogmath/.
Just a reminder
that all book orders for the visiting author Dandi
Daley Mackall are due tomorrow. We will be calling
in the order in the morning. I know you will enjoy
her books!
Tomorrow is Spirit
Day. In support of our Bulldogs let's wear our blue
and white!
October is here!
Tomorrow we will be administering the Ohio
Achievement Assessment for Reading in Gr. 3. All
third graders should get a good night's sleep and
have a hearty breakfast. We encourage all students
to give their best.
Wednesday our PTO
will meet at 9:30 in the Activity Room. Hope you can
join us.
Book orders are
due by Friday for the Dandi Daley Mackall books. She
is an excellent author and I know you will enjoy her
books and her visit to our school later this month.
She plans to autograph all books ordered!
Our Magazine Drive
was a success! Mrs. Morlan's class was the high
homeroom and will have the Bulldog Mascot and a
class treat. We all benefit from the success of this
fundraiser so I thank you for your support.
Today we had our
annual Lockdown Drill at 9am. Our students and staff
did a fine job practicing this required drill. We
all need to be as prepared as possible in case of
emergencies.
Our third graders
will be taking the Fall Ohio Achievement Assessment
in Reading on Tuesday, October 2nd. I ask our
students to get a good night's rest and have a good
breakfast before the test.
All students will
be taking home an order form on Friday with the
opportunity to buy books authored by Dandi Daley
Mackall who will be visiting our school on October
24th. She will autograph her books for our students
that day. Her books are wonderful! If you are
interested in ordering a book, please turn in the
form by Oct. 5th. She will bring them the day of her
visit.
Tomorrow is our
last turn-in day for the Magazine Drive. I'm hoping
for a great finish this year. All of our earnings
are used to help support classroom and school-wide
events and projects.
As we welcome back
the season of Fall, please keep in mind that our
students need to have a sweater or jacket for recess
during these chilly days.
This has been such
a busy week at Dobbins. Our Magazine Drive is going
well with Mrs. Morlan's class in the lead with high
homeroom sales. Our final turn-in day will be
Tuesday, Sept. 25th. Thank you all for helping to
support our school fundraiser.
We were very lucky
to have such nice weather for Picture Day yesterday.
The photographer was able to take our whole school
picture as well as classroom photos outdoors. Smiles
were everywhere!
All students took
part in the annual Bus Evacuation Drill this morning
which is required at the start of our school year.
The children learned how to respond if there is ever
an emergency on the bus. They did a great job
listening and practicing the drill.
Tomorrow begins
the new season of Fall! I am looking forward to the
beauty to come in the colors of the season.
Today is
Constitution Day. Thank you to our second and fourth
graders for performing a Reader's Theater and songs
at a short morning assembly to tell us about this
historical document. Nice jobs students and teachers!
Tuesday is the
first turn-in day for our Magazine Drive. It's
Double Day for all orders turned in tomorrow. I want
to thank our families for participating in this
drive. Your efforts with this sale make a huge
difference for our school.
This Thursday is
School Picture Day. We are looking for all those
beautiful smiles!
Thank you to all
who were able to attend Open House last evening. We
had an excellent turnout. Our students were so proud
to show their parents around their classroom and
stroll throughout the building.
Next Tuesday is
our first Magazine Drive turn-in day. This is Double
Day and one order will count for 2! I am hoping for
a successful sale that will help to contribute funds
towards many school projects including: our school
library, technology enhancements, and playground
improvements.
Monday is
Constitution Day. We are wearing our red-white and
blues to celebrate this special day.
Plan ahead for
Picture Day which is next Thursday, Sept. 20th. I
know it is a day to choose a special outfit to go
along with our smiles.
Hope everyone
enjoys the upcoming weekend. They sure fly by
quickly, so take time to enjoy some fun.
It was nice to
welcome some of our new families to the PTO New
Parent's Tea this morning. This greet was followed
by our first PTO meeting. Thank you to Mrs. Bobbey
our PTO President for kicking off with a great first
meeting.
Reminder that
tomorrow evening we welcome all families to our
annual Open House beginning at 6:30pm. A 15 minute
informational session is scheduled in each grade
level throughout the evening. See you Thursday
evening!
Thank you to all
who helped to make the Friday night Tailgate a
success! I know how hard it is to get it all
together in the first week of school. Great Job and
a Bulldog win to top it off.
This afternoon we
kicked-off our Magazine Drive with a short assembly.
This fundraiser is very important to our school and
I hope you will be able to participate. The prize
selection seemed to be very appealing to our
students. Please look for the packet in your child's
bookbag.
This week is
another busy one. Tomorrow we remember 9/11 with a
moment of silence in the morning. We all plan to
wear red, white, and blue to show our patriotism for
this Patriot's Day.
On Wednesday we
welcome all new families to the PTO New Parent's Tea
and PTO meeting beginning at 9am in the Activity
Room. Our Interim Superintendent, Mr. Don Dailey
will be here to meet and greet those who attend.
Looking forward to
seeing all of our families at Open House on
Thursday. Please see the memo sent home for the time
to visit your child's classroom.
Our first week of
school has been awesome! All is going very smoothly
now as we are more comfortable with the new school
year and have left the first day jitters behind.

Another great day
at Dobbins! Our students are doing a fine job
adjusting to their new classrooms and schedules. As
I visit their lunch tables they are anxious to tell
me about their new classroom. So far so good...
Just a reminder
that tomorrow is our PTO sponsored Tailgate! Show
your spirit and wear blue and white to school
tomorrow. Hope to see you all at the Tailgate
starting at 5:15 Friday night.
Welcome Back!! I
hope all of our families had an enjoyable summer
break.
The first day of
school went very well. Our students were all smiles
as they entered the school building on the first
day! As is
usually the case, our first few days are busy with just
getting to know the class procedures and sharing the
excitement with our new
classroom friends. I ask that you return all
emergency forms and important school papers to your
classroom teacher by the end of this week.
Our Interim
Superintendent, Mr. Don Dailey has scheduled a
meeting this evening at 6:30 at PSHS Cafeteria for
all who are interested in helping with the school
levy campaign. Please bring along a neighbor or
friend. Your help is appreciated.
This Friday is our
Annual PTO sponsored Tailgate! The fun begins at
5:15 in our Dobbins All-purpose Room! Let's kick-off
the spirit and wear blue and white to school this
