Poland Local School District Celebrates School Board Recognition Month in January

The Poland Local School District is joining more than 700 school districts throughout Ohio to celebrate January as School Board Recognition Month.

Poland Board of Education Will Hold Meet and Greet with Community Before School Board Meetings

Starting January 11, 2021, Poland Board of Education meetings will be held in the Dobbins Meeting Room at Dobbins Elementary School. January 11, 2021, will also be the start of a monthly meet and greet with Board of Education Members prior to the scheduled BOE meeting at 6 p.m. Two BOE members will be part of the meet and greet, which will start at 5:30 p.m. in the Dobbins Meeting Room. The meet and greet will serve as an open invitation for community members to directly talk to Board of Education members

Logo Poland Schools Will Remain Remote and Will Return to In-person Learning January 19, 2021

Considering the potential impact of Covid-19 following the holidays, along with the fact that nearly 75% of the survey participants acknowledged support for remaining 100% remote until January 19th, the end of the second grading period, Poland Schools will remain remote and will return to in-person learning Tuesday, January 19th. 

Poland School District Goes Remote for the Rest of December

The District continues to evaluate the impact of the virus on the operation of the District.  Over the course of the past week the District has seen a significant increase in families choosing the remote option.  Some District Grade Levels indicate a higher percentage of students choosing remote over in-person instruction.  

Free Meals Extended for the Rest of the School Year

The USDA announced that all students attending the Poland Local Schools are eligible for free meals, whether they are attending in person or remote. Families with children who are not yet school-age are also eligible to obtain meals under this program, so please share this information with family members and friends.   

Poland Stadium Track Update

The Poland Seminary High School Athletic Department will be reopening Poland Stadium for runners and walkers to use the track beginning on Monday, November 30th from dawn until dusk

In-Person Learning Resumes November 30

Thank you for your patience as the District team continues to monitor the increasing rate of COVID spread in the community.  The District will return to in-person learning on Monday, November 30, 2020.

The Poland Seminary High School Athletic Department will be reopening Poland Stadium for runners and walkers to use the track beginning on Monday, November 30th from dawn until dusk. The Athletic Department would like to remind all community members to please follow the Ohio Department of Health Guidelines and Governor's orders in implementing all recommended best practices and requirements to ensure the health and safety of all individuals.

Poland Local School District Goes Fully Remote

Starting Tuesday, November 17th through Friday November 20th the Poland Local Schools will be fully remote.  As previously stated, school will not be in session on November 23 and 24th.

While conditions are changing daily, it is our intention to keep the schools open with in-person learning through next week, Friday, November 20 and to begin the Thanksgiving break early on November 23.

Tree Removal at Dobbins Elementary

Overgrown tree lines and tree roots posed a structural integrity problem for Dobbins Elementary, causing the Poland Board of Education to make a decision to remove several trees. 

Logo USDA Announces Free Meals

The USDA announced that all students attending the Poland Local Schools are eligible for free meals, whether they are attending in person or remote. Families with children who are not yet school-age are also eligible to obtain meals under this program, so please share this information with family members and friends.

State Audit Shows Positive Financial Standing For Poland Local School District

The Ohio Auditor of State reports a 13 million dollar turnaround for the Poland Local School District. A report from the state’s office was presented at the Board of Education meeting on February 24, 2020.

School Board Recognition Month

Poland Local Schools Superintendent, David Janofa, recognized members of the Poland Board of Education as part of School Board Recognition Month. 

January 2020 Board of Education Meeting Update

Three new school board members were sworn in as the newest Poland Board of Education Members: Annie Colucci, Larry Warren, and Troy Polis. All three were sworn in at the Organizational Meeting on January 13, 2020. Serving with the new Poland Board of Education members are Dr. Larry Dinopoulos and Mr. Gregg Riddle. 

Poland Union's Taste Test

Students and staff had the chance to taste test and handful of foods.

Halloween Carnival

Preschool through 2nd grade students are invited to a special Halloween Carnival that will take place on Saturday, October 26th.  

PINK Day

All students and staff are encouraged to wear PINK on Thursday, October 24th.

Three evening events have been scheduled in the month of October.

PTO Student Directory

Our PTO will be creating a Student Directory that many families will find useful throughout the school year.

YSU Football

The 15th annual State Farm “Kids Tailgate Day” is a  FREE YSU Helmetevent that will take place in the Rulli Brothers/Penguin Party lot on Saturday, September 14th.  This event will be held prior to the 2:00 kickoff against Duquesne and will feature inflatables, games, clowns, and an appearance by Pete the Penguin.  

YSU will provide each Poland Union student with four(4) complimentary tickets to the September 14th game.  The tickets will also provide entry to the Tailgate Day activities. Ticket availability is limited, so act fast.  Simply fill out the form that was recently sent home on red paper and return it to school no later than Wednesday, September 4th.  

Interactive Read-Aloud

Interactive Read Alouds are going to play a large role in the implementation of this year's Comprehensive Literacy Framework (CLF).  

 

 

Stadium Closure

The Poland High School Athletic Department is closing the High School Stadium from August 22-24. The turf will be re-conditioned over this time period and also some areas on the track will be repaired. We appreciate your cooperation on these upcoming dates. The stadium will reopen on Monday, August 26th.  

Stadium Closed!

The Poland Seminary High School Athletic Department will be closing Poland Stadium all day on Friday, April 26th in preparation for the 26th Annual Poland Track and Field Invitational being held on Saturday, April 27th and also the 106th Mahoning County Middle School Track and Field Meet being held on Monday, April 29th . The stadium will reopen on Tuesday, April 30th . Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Principal for the Day

Three lucky students will have the chance to be...drum roll please...Principal for the Day!  Winning tickets will be drawn on Friday, April 12th.  Let's face it.  I need all of the help I can get.  

Watch Us Grow!

Our school's working greenhouse has become a very, very busy place!  Our building's young horticulturalists will be transplanting and nurturing flowers and vegetables all month.  

PTO Newsletter

Our PTO's second newsletter of the year contains a lot of valuable information.  A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Sacha and Mrs. Hardman for all of their hard work.  

Preschool Open Hose

Poland Union's Preschool will be hosting an Open House on Saturday, March 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

PTO Election

Plans for the 2019-2020 school year are already underway.  Next year's PTO Officers will be determined during March 6th's meeting.  Anyone wanting more information may contact Mr. Masucci.
